As a long-time educational writer, parent and former classroom teacher, I’d like to suggest these three factors: 1) Fun spelling reproducibles use whimsical art themes. Bring on the juggling clowns, leaping frogs, dazzling princes and princesses, and you’ll be off to a great start. Spelling worksheets for first graders and second graders are fun when they look fun. It’s not necessary to print out expensive worksheets in full-color. Black-and-white pages work just fine when there is some appealing art. First and second graders can always add their own color!

When kids reach the age of eight to ten, they are taught how to write in cursive. They may find this quite difficult and boring at first. But one fun way to teach them this is to use worksheets also. The basic cursive worksheets that you can use are Rockin’ Round Letters, Climb’n’ Slide Letters, Loopy Letters, Lumpy Letters, and Mix ’n’ Match. Worksheets are now being used in most schools as they are proven effective in fostering a children’s learning process. There were studies that show children responding better to worksheets compared to other boring and strict methods of teaching.

As he colors I tell him the names of the colors and he is already picking them up easily, especially his favourites Green and Brown. Every time he begins to use a word I have taught him I really get a unique buzz that you have to be a dad to understand. I really appreciate all the little contributions I can make. I also tell him the names of whatever he is currently coloring, like an arm, a leg, a tree, a bus and so on. All learning really comes from repetition so by saying these names over and over he will pick them up fast. He will soon be old enough that in a year or so we will be able to break out the paints and see what he is like using them on the Coloring Pages. I know he will love this although I am already nervous at the idea of the chaos it could make! I am sure his eyes will go wide the first time I mix two colors together to make a brand new one, such as red and yellow combining to make orange. It is so rewarding to see his progress over time as he learns without knowing he is doing so. I can really see how his ability to concentrate has improved.

If you are unable to find black and white preschool worksheets that you like, you can still go for the colored ones; however, you may want to consider adjusting your printer settings. Instead of having them print off in colored ink, you may want to adjust your settings to gray scale. This will save you a considerable amount of money and printer ink, especially in the long run. Doing this can also create an additional activity for your child, as you can have them color all the pictures themselves.

Tip #3 – Use Worksheets Sparingly ==> Since free multiplication worksheets are so easy to find, it’s tempting to give your child too many. You mean well, but it just seems like a good idea to have them do several at a time. Little brains can only take so much. Keep learning fun by sprinkling worksheets into their curriculum as a fun break from their usual textbook. Tip #4 – Keep it Fun ==> If you happen to have a competitive child, chances are he will love worksheets always trying to beat his last time. This is great and if this is the case, let him work all of the worksheets he wants. Just be sure that it is ”child-driven” not ”parent-driven” meaning – let it be his idea. As long as he is having fun and asking for more, let him have all he wants.
